Okay. This one needs a lot of breakdown I think. While watching this I thought to myself "wut" because the art and presentation was great, but it was very far from "wow" factor. To explain what I think could use work, I'll break this down into primary categories that stood out to me, personally.
Drawing: (4/5)
The art itself is great. No getting around that. It represents very keen points of cartoon atmosphere with a level of definition and general quality that was extremely pleasing to the eyes. This quality was easily that of things you'll find on mainstream television, if not sometimes MORE. Why not a 5? Some of the character postures seemed awkward and unbelievable at many points, and although that ties into other factors, it still strikes me as a general drawing point as well.
Animation: (2/5)
The animation for transitioning between main stances was extremely awkward and unnatural feeling, generally diminishing the excitement as it seemed less... believable. A lot of the "camera work" as I would call its flash equivalent, was also very ill-placed and moved weird, taking a lot of pizzazz out of things along the way. The animation it self wasn't buggy or COMPLETELY unacceptable though, so it definitely could've been worse. Simply put: in comparison with the rest of the art, it seemed very off and sapped a lot of the magic away from the visuals.
Sound: (2/5)
Save a few sound effects, this movie was completely devoid of actual noises, but had music along the way. The music itself had a decent sound to it, but was very loop reliant and not necessary super catchy or mood-inducing. Felt kind of flat.
Choreography: (1/5)
I think there's a point where you have the basic point A and point B (drawing), you have how you transition (animation), and you have what you actually PLAN as point A, B, and so forth as being. For this piece, the movie really seemed lacking in how the movements were planned... the action poses were kinda odd and didn't feel fluid as well as seeming almost contradictory at some points relative to how things were supposedly moving. Overall I think this was the largest killer of excitement, that the action wasn't gripping, mind-blowing, or even just destructive dirty fun as much as what is defined as "good action", and ultimately planning is a huge building block in the equation of things.
I felt my rant got a tad too negative towards the end, so let me reiterate my main point: This looked great and for all purposes was good, but some key parts prevent this from making me go "holy shit!" even though it's very action-oriented. I enjoy your work and hope to see more in the future, so keep it up!
Overall: 6/10, 3/5 ~WCCC
